Phonic Stories for Long Sounds –Grade 2

Stories I made up to help children to remember the spelling choices. Some children love this aid but others get confused and rely more on visual memory.

Long ‘a’ sound
a a-e ai ay
middle outside inside end
The ‘a’ sound is in the middle of the word Because the ‘e’ is at the end of a word we call it an outside word Because the ‘ai’ is inside the word we call it an inside word In grade 2 most of the ‘ay’ words are at the end of the word
Make up stories to help your child to remember these words as outside words Make up stories to help your child to remember these words as inside words
